If you’re wanting a new website, there are several ways you can go about it, but which is the best? Below we have listed some of the different options and why most might be best avoided.
Build Your Own
You could look at building your own website. If you have limited knowledge then there are sites like Wix or Squarespace, for instance, that have templates you can simply slot your content and images into. This approach maybe the cheapest initially but it will usually cost you more in time and effort in the long run. What happens if you need specific changes the template can’t do? What happens if you need to grow the site in the future? These web builder sites usually work on monthly fees which add up fast as you don’t fully own it yourself. So, although this may seem like a smart shortcut to save on hiring a web designer – we would advise against it.
Use a Large Web Agency
You could opt for a well established, large web design agency who have a large number of staff and must therefore know their stuff. You should get a decent enough site out of it, but there are risks involved too – these companies will most likely charge through the roof and often outsource the work to a junior or abroad. You will have a dedicated account manager to talk to but very likely will never communicate with the person doing the work so could end up with something you didn’t really want and aftercare support could be lacking.
Use an Online Package like Yell or Go Daddy
These services usually include an SEO package that promises the world but inevitably leaves you with a dated, templated site that does nothing. The site won’t be on-brand with your vision, the SEO they provide will be minimal as correct SEO is an on-going process and your highly likely to be frustrated by the whole process – just check out the poor reviews for these types of services to see.
Use a New Ai Tool
Even better than building your own site, now Ai can do it all for you! The only problem is you will end up with a very generic and often clunky site with little character and will be increasingly difficult to make any changes to. Customers are pretty clued up and will be able to tell if your site is designed with Ai, it will only make you look less professional and less like a genuine business.
Finally – you can even use your Mate Dave From School
Dave dabbles in a bit of website design on the weekends and reckons he can knock you up a website in a day, he’ll only charge £100 too! Amazing! But just like building it yourself, what happens when the site needs changes? Dave will most likely provide no designs to see and just build it as he likes, nothing will be on-brand, it won’t send the right message and just be another templated site that says nothing. You have a website but it won’t convert sales so what’s even the point?
