New years is a time for reflection and growth, so we have been thinking about what our core values and beliefs are both as a business and in life generally.
These 4 words are what we believe holds the key to a successful and fulfilling life, but also what we aim to hold true in our business here at Paspective.
If we ever need to make a hard decision or choice we always fall back to these core principles: will it achieve balance, is it true to who we are and what the world is, is it a long term success for the future or merely a short term gain and finally and most importantly – will it benefit others around us.
Below we go into more depth about how each of these 4 core values influence how we work as a web agency and why they are important to use in your own business:
Balance
Everything in life comes down to balance, too much of anything is bad, even something that is considered a positive.
Working hard is a positive, but too hard and you get burnout. Using new and innovative methods is a positive, but ignoring the fundamentals and traditions can also set you back. Giving customers what they want is a positive but getting walked over or doing work outside of the agreed scope is not good for business and helps neither party. So everything you do needs to come from a well balanced and grounded point of view.
Truth
The truth, if ignored, will always come to bite you in the end. If you try to pretend you’re something you’re not or you can’t fulfil what you promise clients, it will build mistrust in your business and that’s one sure-fire way of ending long term success. Be open and transparent with clients, write informative blogs and explain how you operate to customers. Now more than ever customers are looking to use companies they can trust, so make sure you’re one of them.
Future
When we talk about future, future thinking is of course a part of this, but what we really refer to is long-term gains over short-term gains. If you think about every decision you make in life and in business they usually boil down to short term or long term wins. In business, a short-term win might be introducing a discount sale or running a paid ads account to boost some quick sales. This, however, won’t build great long term success and could quickly start to cost the business. A long-term strategy, however, could be dropping overall costs down to be honest and fair with customers, or writing informative blog posts that gradually get you recognition over time. These 2 ideas won’t give immediate results but will build confidence and trust over time and would cost less in the long run.
Others
All of these things are for nothing if your primary purpose is not to help others. Your ultimate goal at the end of the day has to be in serving others and doing a good job at it. The better you can serve your community, or customer, the better your company will thrive and what’s more – the better you will feel as a company. There’s no better reward than the satisfaction of knowing you helped someone. Whether it’s just by providing a good customer service, honest pricing or a unique product, if it’s of value – word will spread.
So we encourage anyone who’s reading this post now to try this in their own life or business. If you’re ever struggling with a difficult decision- think of these four values and whether it holds true to the majority of these.
If you find the decision ticks only one of these values or is a net negative to the majority of these then it’s most likely not worth doing. If you think of something you’ve been putting off that ticks every one of these values then no matter how hard it is, your best trying your hardest to achieve this, future you will thank you.
