Another question we get asked a lot when starting a new project is timeframes and how long it will take to have a website ready.
This obviously depends on the size of the site and number of pages / unique layouts that need creating. But generally the way we work is once the first 50% deposit is paid and the brief is fully provided, we can start within just a few weeks and we then allow a week for the initial homepage design to be created. Generally this is approved within a few days and as long as the original brief provided is correct it may only be minimal amendments needed at the most.
Once the homepage design is signed off then we allow an additional week for any internal page designs, which for most smaller sites would simply be a single service page design that then the rest of the site would flow from. The homepage we can use dummy text and stock images where necessary but we do require some level of text or guidance as to what the internal page needs to consist of first before designing.
Once all designs are signed off – which by this point is usual 2 weeks. We would then move onto the build.
We need to allow 1 – 2 weeks for the initial homepage and general content page layouts to be built into WordPress. Then at this point is when we’d require all final content to be supplied for the site.
When the content is ready we can start adding that in which we allow one weeks timeframe per 6 – 10 pages of content.
Pre live testing and client confirmation then takes place and the site can go live, with a final checklist and final tests made once live also, which usually only takes a day or two.
So overall, for a 10 page brochure site, we would usually quote around a week’s worth of work but allow a timeframe of 3 – 6 weeks on average to have the site ready by.
We can turnaround a site as soon as 1 – 2 weeks for smaller sites or for urgent jobs (at a premium rate).
The only other variables that can effect the timeframe is if we are waiting for design sign off, confirmation on a brief or for any content to be supplied from the client – images, text, logos, logins etc.
